Blandford Forum is an attractive Dorset market town situated at the heart of the county on the River Stour, just over 20 miles south west of Salisbury and 15 miles north west of Poole. There has been a settlement at the site since at least Anglo-Saxon times - the town is mentioned in the Domesday Book - and the market feature was well developed by the 13th century. Indeed, the word forum means market in Latin and was added to the name Blandford in the mid sixteenth century.
